"It is Too Small a Thing: An Introduction to Global Christianity" is a 6-session seminar/workshop facilitated by Tyler & Christiane Horton, missionaries with SIM. The goal of the seminar is to provide a glimpse of what God is doing all over the globe and for each participant to move at least one small step forward in their appreciation of and interaction with the Global Church. Group activities and interaction make up a good portion of each session so that participants get the most out of the experience. Each participant will receive a workbook that helps them to follow along and jot things down (if they wish) during the sessions. The workbook also has a brief resource guide and 'going deeper' sections for self-study.
The seminar will take place on Friday, February 22nd from 6:30-9:15pm and on Saturday, February 23rd from 9-11:45am at our Southeast site (4357 Savaryn Drive SW). Registration is required and there is a modest cost of $10 for each workbook which will be collected at the seminar. After the seminar, for those who are interested, there will be an opportunity to stay for lunch and listen to Tyler and Christiane share about what God has been doing and where he is leading them. All are welcome to come.
Here is the seminar schedule:
Friday, February 22nd, 6:30pm-9:15pm:
Session 1: It’s a Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood: Our perspective on where and who we are is very important. What is our real address and to what church do we really belong? How accurate is our picture of what the church looks like across the globe?
Session 2: The Whole World In His Hands: The Bible has a lot to say about the ‘nations’ but this does not just start with Jesus and the Great Commission He gave His Church. God’s Word has always been about and for the whole world.
Session 3: Children of the Promise: Christianity is the most diverse and most dispersed it has ever been...and it is the most diverse and most dispersed religion on the planet. What do we look like and how did we get where we are today?
Saturday, February 23rd, 9am-11:45am:
Session 4: Under Pressure: Looking at the Global Church is not like looking at a picture, it is like looking in a mirror because the Global Church is our family. What are the opportunities and challenges that are shaping the church in our day?
Session 5: Walk Like An Egyptian?: The church looks and sounds different in different parts of the world. This points us to the fact that our gospel is able to meet any people group where they are and is able to grow up naturally in the soil of any culture.
Session 6: Where Do We Go From Here?: The church is the way that it is because our God is the way that He is. What does it look like for us to be part of this thing that it so much bigger than our local church? What is available to help us?
