TEACHING RECAP

Summary: We often crop God down to size — making him safer, smaller, more manageable. It’s easy to edit out the parts that feel uncomfortable, just like we edit a photo. But the result is always less than the real thing. This talk shows how to leave those lesser versions behind and encounter the God who is bigger, more beautiful, and more powerful than we imagined.

Main Points:

  1. God reveals himself and directs our worship.

  2. Idolatry is foolish, destructive, and subtle.

  3. God is jealous for us because he loves us.

  4. True worship means smashing idols and turning to Jesus.

On-Ramps:

  • Smash your idols.

  • Surrender fully to God.

  • Pursue relationship with Jesus.

  • Go to church every week.

  • What do you think drives our desire and ability to create and worship idols so easily?

  • What does worshipping idols look like in our everyday lives?

  • How can we, as a community, help one another worship the One True God as we continually work to flee our idols?

  • God is jealous for you. What does that mean to you and how can that help us keep Him as the focal point of our worship?

  • How do you want to respond to this passage in your daily life?
