TEACHING RECAP

Summary: Are you living the life you were made for—or just the life you stumbled into? So many of us are searching for purpose, but we’re looking in the wrong place: within ourselves. What if the key to joy, freedom, and direction isn’t found in chasing your own truth—but in responding to God’s calling? This talk will help you rediscover what that calling looks like, and how to start walking in it.

Main Points:

  1. God’s calling begins with seeing him clearly, not chasing our own big ideas.

  2. God’s calling flows from his grace, not from our qualifications.

  3. God’s calling is activated by taking a step, not by understanding everything.

  4. God’s calling is about his mission, and it’s where we find true fulfillment.

On-Ramps:

  • Am I focused more on what I want or what God wants?

  • Where has God already shown me glimpses of his calling or direction?

  • How has fear or feeling unqualified kept me from stepping forward?

  • What simple step could I take this week to serve in God’s mission?

  • Have I felt a stirring toward vocational ministry—and have I told anyone?

Discussion

  • What stands out to you in this passage? How does it most challenge or encourage you personally?

  • Why do you think Isaiah’s first response was, “Woe to me”? How might this relate to the way we see ourselves when we encounter God?

  • In what ways does our culture encourage people to “chase their own ideas” rather than seek a calling from God? How do you think that shapes how people define purpose and identity?

  • Where do you see “the world’s deep hunger” around you—places where people long for healing, hope, or meaning? How does that connect with your passions or burdens?

  • What is your current sense of calling? Have you had any moments—big or small—that felt like God nudging you toward something?

  • Is there a step of obedience—big or small—that you sense God inviting you into right now? What might help you take that step?

PRAYER

  • How can we pray for you as a group?

  • Next week: John 21:1-14
