Discussion

  • What do you think are the reasons why God is so serious about his people observing the Sabbath?  Read Exodus 20:8-11 again.  Then read Matthew 11: 28-30 & Hebrews 4:9-10.

  • Do you observe the Sabbath?  Why or why not?  If you do observe the Sabbath, what does it look like for you?  What have you found the benefits to be of doing so? If you don’t observe the Sabbath, what do you feel when you think about the idea of doing so?

  • How can we follow this command to “observe the Sabbath” in a world, and specifically in our culture, that suffers from such a sense of ongoing hurry & a ‘do-it-all’ mentality?  Do you think this command is even realistic in our culture?

  • What steps do you need to take to actually observe the Sabbath in your life?  What things would you have to let go of/not do to make Sabbath a new reality that God wants you to experience in your life?

PRAYER

  • How can we pray for you as a group?

  • Next week: Exodus 20:12
