TEACHING RECAP

Summary: When persecution scattered the early church in Acts 8, it looked like the mission was falling apart. Instead, the gospel spread further than ever — into Samaria, toward Africa, and beyond every barrier people thought couldn’t be crossed. In this message, we explore how God advances his mission through opposition, how ordinary believers participate, and how faith becomes visible even when the results are mixed. If you’ve ever wondered how to stay faithful when pressure rises, this passage offers clarity, courage, and hope.

Main Points:

  1. Opposition becomes expansion.

  2. Ordinary believers keep speaking.

  3. The Spirit leads and people follow.

  4. Scripture is opened and Christ is understood.

  5. Barriers fall and one family forms.

  6. New life shows itself—visibly and spiritually.

  7. The results are real—but they are mixed.

On-Ramps:

  • Where are we experiencing opposition — and how are we responding?

  • Where might God be calling us to follow, to speak, or to cross a barrier?

  • Is our faith visible — and are we trusting God with the results?

Discussion

  • What stands out to you from this passage? How does this passage most challenge or encourage you?

  • Just like in the book of Acts, there are many modern day examples in our world where opposition actually helped the gospel spread, especially in places on the eastern side of the world. Why do you think persecution hasn’t sparked the same kind of expansion in North America, and what might God be calling us to do in a culture where faith is largely comfortable? How might He want to use other kinds of pressure—social, relational, or personal—to grow faith in North America today?

  • Where do you feel least confident in explaining the Bible—and how might God be inviting you to grow there so you can serve others more faithfully? What step could you take this month to deepen your understanding of Scripture so that you are more ready when someone has questions about faith?

  • Is there anyone in your life right now that God may be inviting you to walk with through the Bible—by studying, explaining, or even simply reading together?

  • In Acts 8, believers were scattered, and the gospel spread in new ways. Where in your own life have you been “scattered” — pushed into a new situation, relationship, or challenge — and how might God be using that to grow your faith or help you share Jesus with others?

  • How do you want to respond to this passage in your daily life?

PRAYER

  • How can we pray for you as a group?
