TEACHING RECAP

Summary: What do you do when God seems to lead you straight into a hard place? In Exodus 15, Israel moves from celebration to thirst almost overnight — and the wilderness forces a question about trust. When you don’t understand what God is doing, will you grumble, pull away, or keep following?

Main Points:

  • 1. God tests his people, pushing them to the edge.

    2. The people grumble, but Moses cries out to God.

    3. God shows Moses the way forward, and he obeys.

    4. God responds with healing, instruction, revelation and blessing.

On-Ramps:

  • Name your wilderness.

  • Move from complaint to prayer.

  • Trust God and keep obeying him.

  • Look for what God is doing.

Discussion

  • What stands out to you from this passage? How does this passage most challenge or encourage you?

  • What changes for Israel between verses 22 and 27? What does this tell us about how quickly our circumstances can change?

  • Why do you think God led Israel into a place where there was no water? What does the passage suggest God was doing through this experience?

  • What are some common ways people respond when they feel like God has led them into a "wilderness"?

  • What is your wilderness right now? Where do you currently feel stretched, disappointed, uncertain, or like God has led you somewhere difficult?

  • What might God be doing in your current wilderness that you aren't able to see yet?

  • What is one step of obedience God may be asking you to take right now?

PRAYER

  • How can we pray for you as a group?
